Autograph letters signed from J.O. Halliwell-Phillipps, London, to George Daniel, London [manuscript], 1854-1859.

Chiefly on Daniel's contributions to Halliwell-Phillipps' Early editions of Shakespeare. Halliwell-Phillipps refers to a ballad, Light o' love; Love's labors lost, 1598; Richard II, 1597; Merry wives of Windsor; Banks' Dancing horse; and the imperfect 1603 Hamlet. Mostly on letterhead or addressed from Avenue Lodge, Brixton Hill, Surrey; two addressed from 6 St. Mary's Place, West Brompton. Letter before p. 1 with an accompanying address leaf addressed to George Daniel, 18 Canonbury Square, Islington. One of the letters after p. 298 is a printed form letter, addressed to Daniel and signed by Halliwell-Phillipps in his hand.

George Daniel was born in 1789. Though he made his main living as a businessman, he was also a writer and book collector. In his early years, he published squibs on Royal scandals, some of which were suppressed, and satirised contemporary poetasters in The modern Dunciad , 1814.
